Practice with the Elements

Throughout this year on the Soul Sanctuary Membership, we have had a monthly focus on the five elements: Air, Water, Earth, Fire and Ether.

Each month we have themed our practices, meditations and teachings around the element of the month, so be sure to go through the archive of the Soul Sanctuary videos and work through the wonderful practices. Here’s a little bit about each element and a beautiful mantra for each that you can use for your next meditation and/or yoga practice.

 

WATER:

A whole month dedicated to letting go and allowing change to take place in your life, body and mindset. The water flows encourage you to flow freely with the breath, finding creative freedom in your body and letting go of negative energy or blocks. Practices that allow you to glide like water over rocks and soften into stillness like a lake, as well as power up and find your motion like a stormy ocean. This beautiful element invites you to allow change on and off the mat and enjoy the flow of your journey.

The water element is connected to Svadhisthana, our sacral chakra, the place of our creative and sexual energies. Remember, water nourishes life as long as it is in motion.

MANTRA: I AM THE CREATOR OF MY FLOW.

 

EARTH:

The Soul Sanctuary membership dedicated a whole month to grounding, connecting, slowing down, strengthening and finding stability. The Earth practices are all about bringing your yoga home and into yourself by enjoying the connective energy that comes with the more rooted flows. Ground into your body by using the breath to achieve stability, focus and strength.

Feel connection to muladhara, the root chakra, as you check in with how secure you feel in this life and where you can invite more vitality in.

MANTRA: THE ENERGY OF THE EARTH FLOWS THROUGH ME.

 

FIRE:

The Soul Sanctuary flows dedicated to fire, will ignite your inner power, heat, passions, motivation, impulses, strength, determination and will help tap into your masculine energy. These practices are about firing up and listening to the power that we hold within our body and mind. We express this both on and off the mat; moderating how much strain or stress we put ourselves under day to day.

Connected to Manipura, our solar plexus chakra, our fiery yoga flows see us activating every muscle in the body, having fun, getting a bit of a sweat on and also knowing when to take moments of pause.

MANTRA: I AM POWERFUL AND I USE MY POWER WISELY.

 

AIR:

On the Soul Sanctuary we have a whole month dedicated to an element of expansive movement, freshness, breath, communication and intelligence. Also known for being the power of the mind; the force of inspiration and imagination. This wonderful element represents new life, new possibilities and freedom with which we create and harness our ideas, knowledge, dreams, wishes and wisdom.

Of course the Air element resonates most with Anahata, our heart chakra. As we breathe prana in and allow it to nourish the body, we fill up into the lungs, expanding the heart space.

MANTRA: I AM LOVED & I AM LOVING.

 

ETHER:

A whole month dedicated to space, clarity, wisdom, expression and intuition. The fifth element, Ether, is also referenced as the most subtle of the elements. Ether is associated with consciousness, creating more mindfulness and awareness in your practice. Take the time throughout this month to tap into your intuition, allow self expression, embrace the wisdom and teachings of the universe and invite moments of space and clarity into your everyday life.

A great silent space holds all of nature in its embrace, it also holds you.
