At our innate core, we are not only human beings, but animals, and as an animal, we have an intrinsic need to be connected to mother nature and her elements, the seasons, the rising and setting of the sun, and our deeper primal instincts. In many tribal and eastern traditions, being intrinsically connected to this was completely natural, but as we have evolved and built our concrete jungles, we are incredibly detached to the beauty of what our planet offers and what our deeper wildness craves. Today we are caught in a world laced with fear and anxiety from all angles and we feel a constant uneasiness and confusion of our life path and our purpose.
Unleashing your inner wild is a form of deep natural expression and creativity.
Creativity is the language of our souls and is the key to unlocking a part of ourselves that longs to be expressed.
Reconnecting to your inner wild brings you back to your true inner nature. This is the true form of who you are when you strip away the layers of patriarchal restraints and society and peer pressures. What you are not defined by is your occupation, your partner, your material belongings, your mistakes, your past, your financial status or where you live, or even your nationality. When you can truly feel that you live and express in alignment with your heart's true desires, you will find you are living wildly and freely.
Our primal instincts, our desperate need to connect to nature and with our bodies, have been suppressed and warped into fear in the modern day. Passion, frustration, anger, and sadness are shamed and squashed and we have been made to believe that we are not enough as we are, that we are broken and need fixing in external ways. Usually, we don’t realise this until we have experienced burnout or some form of trauma that enlightens us that we are not in alignment with what our heart truly desires, and then the veil starts to lift from our eyes.
The most incredible thing that many of us aren’t aware of is that we all possess an immense amount of creativity, we just don’t know how to tap into it anymore.
We all have a wild, untamed part of ourselves that wants nothing more than to come out and play. Reconnecting to our inner child is not only exhilarating but so necessary to uncover and heal repressed emotions and deeper wounds you experienced growing up and which infiltrate into your adult life.
Unleashing your inner wild is something that doesn’t come as easily for us anymore. Accessing this part of ourselves is something we almost need to relearn.
Ways to reconnect with your Inner Wild:
✨ Allow your imagination and the childhood version of you to come through.
✨ Understand your hormones (both men and women).
✨ Allow yourself to create without an end goal.
✨ Live by the cycles of the moon (and sun).
✨ Be in nature as much as possible.
✨ Dance, move, breathe.
✨Practice grounding.
Connecting to your inner wild is not gender-specific. There is a large movement at present to encourage women to reconnect with their ‘wild woman archetype’ but this is also just as crucial for men. All humans, no matter our gender, experience the disconnect with our intuition, our creativity and wildness, our masculine and feminine energies, and our hormones also suffer due to this.
Adele Wimsett, Founder of Harmonise You and women's hormones expert explains:
“Just as mother earth has seasons, the sun cycles and the moon has distinct phases, we have these rhythms & cycles within us.
Both men & women have a 24-hour circadian rhythm (linked with testosterone, cortisol & melatonin), with women having an additional inner time keep of our infradian rhythm – our menstrual cycle (progesterone & oestrogen). It is through understanding how our hormonal fluctuations link with nature’s own cycles, we can connect with our inner wild, balancing our masculine & feminine energies.”
Jungian theory archetypes represent the Wild Men and Women as wicked rebels. They are the people who are in touch with the side of themselves that don’t want to settle or be forced into any box or society constraints.
Wild Woman
A deeply transformation book for women is the infamous “Women Who Run With Wolves” written by Clarissa Pinkola Estes.
Throughout her book, she encourages women to overcome the fear of upsetting the status quo. She encourages women to run free, to get lost, to risk making mistakes in order to find their true calling, and to trust their intuition.
“Be wild; that is how to clear the river. The river does not flow in polluted, we manage that. The river does not dry up, we block it. If we want to allow it its freedom, we have to allow our ideational lives to be let loose, to stream, letting anything come, initially censoring nothing. That is creative life. It is made up of divine paradox. To create one must be willing to be stone stupid, to sit upon a throne on top of a jackass and spill rubies from one’s mouth. The river will flow, then we can stand in the stream of it raining down.”
Wild Man
An incredible read for men is "Iron John: A Book About Men" by poet and men’s movement founder Robert Bly. Robert took inspiration from a Grimm Brothers tale of a hairy red-headed wild man named Iron John and used this story to encourage men to embrace the unpredictable rather than the accepted.
“The Wild Man can only come to full life inside when the man has gone through the serious disciplines suggested by taking the first wound, doing kitchen and ashes work, creating a garden, bringing wild flowers to the Holy Woman, experiencing the warrior, riding the red, the white and the black horses, learning to create art, and receiving the second heart”.
“We have to accept the possibility that the true radiant energy in the male does not hide in, reside in, or wait for us in the feminine realm, nor in the macho/John Wayne realm, but in the magnetic field of the deep masculine.”
It is time for you to make space for your inner wild to break free and shine through.

If you haven’t guessed it already, this month on the Soul Sanctuary is all about connecting with your Inner Wild through various forms of movement and meditation. Some of the practices this month will be more contemporary, and we urge you to embrace stepping outside of the confines of your mat to embody the full experience.
In week one, we have a 60-minute animalistic vinyasa flow. This style of movement is more primal and can feel quite powerful in nature, remember that there are always options for modifications. Be sure to have fun with this one and embrace the feel of the animal energy as you move on your mat.
In the second week, we have a 30-minute fire and freedom flow that ignites your inner power using free movement and asana.
We also have a special kind of meditation during this week, where we raise the vibration and frequency of energy in and around you through drumming and breath.
In our third week, we have our 45-minute playful practice which will focus on tapping into your inner child through breath of joy, inversions, and a fun roll around your mat.
Be sure to listen and be kind to your body. Allow yourself to have fun and release the subconscious confines sometimes added to your practice.
In our final week, we have a 20-minute restorative flow to help ground you into the earth and connect you with mother nature.
We also have our Movement Breakdown, where we will break down the safest way to move into the full expression of Urdhva Dhanurasana (sometimes referenced as Chakrasana), which is also known as wheel pose.
As always, we have our suggested Soul Sanctuary flows from the back catalogue (in black) that align with this month’s theme, mapped out below in our printable calendar. You can also find these additional practices in the calendar function on our beautiful app or search for them on the membership via desktop.

We all have an inner wildness. We can either let it tame us or we can let it set us free.
STAY WILD - Poem by Ms Moem
You were not born a statue
Nor rooted like a tree.
You were born a wild one;
A spirit pure and free.
No cage should hold you captive.
No title should define.
You’re flexible and fluid,
So can change at any time.
With nothing set in stone
And so much to explore
Wander down a million paths
And rattle every door.
Never stop adventuring
Embrace your inner child.
Stay fearless & stay curious.
Stay positive. Stay wild.
