How To Move In Deeper Alignment With Your Soul

222A6235

Alignment is a process that happens from the inside-out and the outside-in.

We learn from our environment, our emotions, our peers, our culture and our bodies. We are constantly evolving and learning and our surroundings can have a real impact on our beliefs and values.
Within the yoga realm alignment is mentioned and talked about often, both within the physical body (through asana practice) and within the spiritual sense.

In the physical form - alignment is the term used in asana to describe the precise way to any given pose, in order to maximize its benefits and minimize risk of any injury. The use of props and modifications are encouraged so you can work with your own body structure as there is no one way for everyone.

“Balance is the state of the present - the here and now. If you balance in the present you are living in eternity” - BKS Iyengar

Yoga asana challenges and strengthens our alignment, our base of support, our centre of gravity and our line of gravity which in turn enhances our balance. A huge portion of our asana practices are centered around balancing postures as they help improve the function of the body’s equilibrium receptors and focus, help to relieve stress and to remain mentally and emotionally strong.

• Alignment (in a physical form) is the relationship of the skeleton to the base of support and centre / line of gravity.

• Our base of support is whatever is supporting us on the earth, for example, our two feet when standing, our buttocks and feet when sitting, our hands when in handstands/inversions.

• Our centre of gravity is the point where all the mass of a body (or object) is concentrated

• And our line of gravity is an imaginary vertical line passing through our body's centre of gravity.

This month we are introducing an additional schedule of Soul Sanctuary practices for our members that connect with our ‘Alignment’ theme, on top of your monthly videos. These practices are just a suggestion and guideline for you and can be found in the Soul Sanctuary archive or across Cat Meffan Youtube channel.

The reason behind sharing these new monthly calendars is to allow members to connect as a community, but also to help motivate you and hold you accountable for your practice. Make sure you held over to our members Facebook to share you experience with each session, or tag us on Instagram.

“Appreciation is the vibration of alignment with who you are” - Esther Hicks

In a spiritual sense - aligning to you is coming back to your truth and your authentic self. It is aligning with your true desires, your intuition and acknowledging and working with the shadow self when needed. It is practising Ahimsa, the first yama of the eight limbs, which is non-violence to self and others.

We have touched many times on our Chakras - The seven main points along the spine that are our internal energy points which receive, transmit and vibrate universal energy into and from the body via the Meridian lines.
The Meridian lines are the energy network of the body. They are the channels by which our energy is transported throughout the body and they correlate with the Chakra points. There are 12 main meridians, 6 are yin and 6 are yang.

The meditation we have on the membership this month will tap into the vibrational energy in our bodies, bringing it to the surface through the chakras via mantra and breath, which in turn will help you align with a deeper sense of YOU.

“If you can tune into your purpose and really align with it, setting goals so that your vision is an expression of that purpose, then life flows much more easily” - Jack Canfield

This month’s journal prompts are focused around our theme and the bigger question: how are you aligning your life to fulfil your dreams?
Take time this month to meditate and answer the below prompts with full honesty, acceptance and forgiveness; remembering that we are all on our own path and that yoga is that practice of connecting to oneself.

• What does alignment mean to you?

• What is your strongest desire?

• What makes YOU unique?

• If no one would judge you, what would you do?

• What sets your soul on fire?
