Conscious Connected Breathwork: A Journey of Healing and Self-Discovery

Day 20

Conscious Connected Breathwork: A Journey of Healing and Self-Discovery

In the fast-paced world we live in, it's easy to feel disconnected from ourselves, lost in the noise of everyday life.

But there’s a practice that invites us to pause, breathe, and reconnect with the deepest parts of our being—Conscious Connected Breathwork. This sacred and transformative journey uses the breath as a tool for healing, emotional release, and spiritual awakening.

So, who is this practice for, what are its benefits, and how does it differ from other breathwork practices, like pranayama?

What is Conscious Connected Breathwork?

At its core, Conscious Connected Breathwork is a rhythmic and continuous breathing technique, where the inhale flows smoothly into the exhale, without any pauses in between. This continuous cycle of breath creates space within the body and mind, we begin to dissolve the tension, trauma, and mental blocks that may have accumulated over time.

The breath becomes our guide, leading us towards a place of deep healing, self-awareness, and presence. It’s an invitation to soften the walls we've built around our hearts and minds and allow space for transformation.

The Conscious Connected Breathwork technique shared through Cat Meffan and the Soul Sanctuary is focused around a nose inhale to activate the parasympathetic nervous system. This breathwork practice isn’t a “quick fix”, it’s not about who can “get there” the quickest, nor is it a practice that we share lightly. The journeys we share at the Soul Sanctuary, on retreats, at events and online, are trauma-informed and follow the softer path of the feminine, whilst still reaching the depths that many need to reach to start healing.

What happens in a Conscious Connected Breathwork journey?

Not all CCB facilitators and methods will welcome freedom and full embodied expression, but at the Soul Sanctuary, we believe this is the path to connecting with the true sovereign experience of the self. In our journeys, participants will be guided through the breath, but will also be cued to move and release vocally when they need to.

Some may laugh, some may cry, some may connect with spirit and ancestors and some may need to move the energy through their body by shaking. Many people will experience full-body tingles and many will be taken through a journey of the sub-conscious. The breath is medicine and we must trust that the breath will show us the path that needs to be seen.

Who is Conscious Connected Breathwork For?

CCB can help so many people and it’s not just about healing trauma. It can simply be to reconnect to one's body and breath, to feel deep peace or even to experience pure joy.

These are just some of the ways it can help:

For those seeking stress relief: If you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or simply disconnected, Conscious Connected Breathwork can help calm your nervous system, bringing you back into balance and peace. It’s important to be aware that CCB can also bring up “un-met” trauma, so it’s very important to integrate and process deeply after any journey.

For those dealing with emotional blockages: Whether it’s grief, past trauma, or limiting beliefs, the practice allows for emotional release and healing, opening you up to greater emotional freedom.

For those on a spiritual journey: This practice can also serve as a gateway to deeper connection, both within yourself and to the vast energy of the present moment. It’s a spiritual practice that helps you feel more grounded and alive.

How is Conscious Connected Breathwork Different From Pranayama?

While both Conscious Connected Breathwork and pranayama involve breath control, they are quite different in their approach and purpose. Pranayama is rooted in ancient philosophies and though some Conscious Connected Breathwork techniques may borrow ideas from these practices, it is a much more modern practice.

In pranayama, the focus is often on regulating the breath and mastering control over the inhale and exhale, using specific techniques like breath retention and alternate nostril breathing. The practice is rooted in ancient yogic traditions and aims to calm the mind and balance the energies within the body.

Conscious Connected Breathwork is less about control and more about surrendering to the natural flow of the breath. The continuous rhythm creates a sense of flow that allows emotional and physical blockages to be released. The goal is not to control the breath, but to connect with it, creating space for healing and deep emotional release.

The Healing Power of the Breath

Conscious Connected Breathwork is not just a practice; it’s a pathway to healing and self-discovery. It encourages you to drop into a space of vulnerability, softness, and openness. The continuous, connected breath guides you into the present moment, helping you reconnect with your body, emotions, and spirit.

The breath IS spirit, it is the life force energy that brings us into this world and takes us out of it.

By incorporating this sacred practice into your life, you can experience profound shifts in your mental, emotional, and physical well-being. It’s an invitation to journey inward, to heal old wounds, and to live more fully and authentically.

So, if you're seeking a practice that invites a deep connection to self,, release, and transformation, Conscious Connected Breathwork may just be the path you're looking for. Whether you’re new to breathwork or an experienced practitioner, this sacred practice holds the power to help you return to your true self—your heart, your energy, and your essence.

Where to do a Conscious Connected Breathwork journey

It's important to trust your facilitators and the company you are doing a journey with. They should be trauma-informed and not be pushing students to reach a "peak point" too soon.

Emotional and physical safety is key in a Conscious Connected Breathwork journey, so you should feel that your host is open, caring and yet confident to hold the space.

You can take part in a Soul Sanctuary Conscious Connected Breathwork journey with Cat Meffan on one of Cat's retreats, workshops or online.
